Skip is Waze for Uber riders. Instead of getting to your destination faster, Skip saves you money on the way there. When users request a ride on Skip an algorithm finds the cheapest pickup possible within a 5 minute walk. 

I think college students will love this app because you can pinpoint the the placement of your dropoff, saving a half-mile walk across campus. Allowing users to specify exactly where they are getting dropped off can save a lot of time when going to stadiums, concerts, the airport or finding a place that you don't know the address to. (This feature is not available in Uber yet, you have to give the precise address of your destination.)

As more people give up their car for Uber, transportation costs will be more dynamic, compared to the fixed cost of monthly car and insurance payments. For people who use Uber full time, it's likely they'll spend 5-10k on Uber every year. Saving 10% on Uber with Skip would save them hundreds of dollars a year.

At first, Uber's customers were those with more money than time, now they are targeting people with more time than money. Skip helps that mission by giving the frugal user an option to save up to 30% on their ride. 

Uber is trying to gain the market share of people who use public transit, and many are on the fence because even Uber Pool is still too expensive. Skip can help change that, and convince more people to ditch their cars. I hope that people will use Skip to save a few bucks on their ride to work, and pay for a coffee or bagel with the savings.
